Why there is no crime in this town. Writers Cramp entry
REWRITE
"Now, let me tell you what really happened.” This town may seem innocent, with the quaint buildings and decorations, but things aren't as they seem. The lawlessness that would make most criminals shudder and do whatever it took to get out of town immediately if not sooner was normal many years ago. Without the financial means or conveyances or tools necessary to be able to move from this depressed and woe-be-gone kind of place some few people had no choice but to remain. I remember when the area was vibrant and full of life, happiness, and had thousands of people enjoying community, but the crimes and horrors of those individuals who had no conscience drove t this and most people far from the thriving lifestyles once appreciated and cherished.

Among the few inhabitants, a stranger not long committed to living here convinced those who were stuck, to have a change of mind, and foster a different approach to their lifestyles. As they discovered a different point of view and found possibilities for energizing and renewing their communities, they decided to stay rather than struggle to escape. The grey cloud of foreboding, eerieness and the weight of oppression gradually lifted. Happiness, faith, belief, and the idea that their future was bright and bountiful overtook the towns' people who thrived and were excited to have their town alive again.

Letters and cards were sent to friends, relations, and acquaintances letting them know about the wonderful changes that were wrought because a stranger showed them a different possibility.

Some new comers arrived recently and although they appeared to fit in nicely things seemed a bit different about them. Maybe it was a different culture or perhaps their life style was annoying because it wasn't like most folks. Whatever it was, bothered people and they didn't quite understand why. After the huge and wonderful change for the better, going to church was the main focus and a very big deal in this town. Maybe because these new interlopers didn't attend church and they acted as if they owned the world, which most like were the major issues known about town that wouldn't stop plucking at the peoples spirits.

Things were quiet and peaceful, nobody bothering anyone. Everyone willing to help one another. Everything was going well,...perfect. Then there was an awful and very disturbing accident. At least it seemed that way on the surface, but, this was no accident. The roof of the car had been torn off, front end smash in like a head on collision with a bulldozer, backend mutilated as if someone tried to wring it out like you'd do with a dish cloth, and the car was upside down as if placed this way deliberately. No signs of injury, or sign of any occupancy was evident, yet, common knowledge was that two strangers were leaving town in a major hurry. All that was found was huge marks like a snake had been in the area. Or at least something that slithered and boy howdy was it some kinda big something.

After searching the area All night until dawn, nothing was found to shed any light upon this mystery. The strangers were never seen or heard from or of again, and nobody talked about the accident. That is until it happened again. It was exactly the same with a slight difference. The vehicle was an 18 wheeler. It was just as badly wrecked as the car had been, and looked to me much worse. Now how'd that happen to such a huge truck and trailer, I have no idea and I don't want to know.

A few months later another accident exactly like those I told you about earlier, happened with a big difference. This time there were some clues. The people who were involved, yet missing, were discovered to be greedy and selfish hoarders or thieves seeking gain and having no regard for life. Items were found that suggested they were professional thieves. Another added positive to figuring out what was happening was having a new detective assigned to the case of the current accident and, this meant he most likely would investigate the others because of suspicions that the cases were linked and had some commonalities. This new investigator who had access to many data banks through special internet clearance hopefully would be able to do a thorough job researching the facts and digging deep into the events. Eventually the investigation we hoped, would result in finding all the details related these accidents and solving this mystery. A lot of people were praying for some answers because this was getting very scary. Fear was beginning to rear it's ugly head causing some folks to seriously consider moving as far away from here as they could manage to go.

I really like the preacher and don't want to infer I had something against him, but he of all people was the one person who was making a neucense of himself. His wife also managed to butt into as much business as possible which was causing quite a stir around town. I know he was trying to help and meant well, but, he insisted that, life style without God was the cause for these accidents. We all knew this was crazy thinking and a bunch of nonsense. As long as people were nice to one another, everything would be fine. Stealing, well, we couldn’t figure that into this kind of a situation, but the preacher insisted that stealing was a sin. After all who would be able to do this kind of thing and then totally disappear without a trace? With all these accidents and no witnesses, or leaving tracks or traces of any evidence, anything for clues, this preacher was certain God was preventing sinners from getting away with their sinful life styles. Someone was covering up breaking the law, that’s what it was, or so people thought. As for this preacher well, He was getting into business which might come back to bite him sooner or later. Stealing, that was the least of the problem!

People still went to church although not as often as they used to and their attitudes had changed slightly. Sadly people were beginning to take for granted church would always be available, God was always with them, and everything would always be the normal way it always was for centuries. I wondered if these folks were aware that some things had changed. After all, how, why, and when did these strange disappearances after the horrible accidents happen and what was the meaning of it all? I had no idea and started considering getting far away from this town. Only one thing stopped me, my life was wrapped up hook, line, and sinker in this town. I was an original, had known everyone and everything all my life and couldn't leave my friends and family in this mess. With God's help, answers will come and all I had to do was be alert for the messages. At least that was my thinking at the time.

Then a year later another accident same as the rest, except someone survived, happened just after the town's fund raising fair event had come to a close. Many thought it was a coincidence, but some began to believe there was some evil thing going on which should be run out of town or better, eliminated completely. This marked beginning of a gathering of God fearing folks who were starting to bond closely together to pray about whatever it was needed prayerful attention, and also encourage as many more folks as possible to join them. The only surviver was seriously injured, and wasn't able to remember any information about the accident for a long time. When that person finally was able to tell their story, the only thing that was told to the investigators was, something about a thing ripping up everything, growling, and snarling like a huge outraged monster. No one has even seen whatever it may be, but rarely, you can hear, far away on a quite clear night, the sounds of a monster prowling the near by area. The kind of sound which is eerie, sliding, and something I want to be as far away from as possible. My knowledge and understanding is that people are changing again for the better. Now everyone makes it a priority to regularly attend church, especially me. We pray and fellowship together, help one another, and rely on God to take care of us. There has been no crime in this town since that last accident. Thankfully, the town has had no major accidents since everyone has had a change of mind and heart turning to God, praying, and being neighborly toward each other. Even the eerie sounds seem to have disappeared. Everyone in this town believes that prayer is powerful. What do you think would happen when more people begin to pray?
