Heavy poem outlining some of the issues society has.
I lay awake,
In bed all night.
I have a strange feeling,
That nothing’s alright.

Yes I have pain,
And problems galore.
I’ve seen love,
Turn its back before.

But there’s so much,
That I’ve never felt.
So many aches,
In which I’ve not dealt.

I look up and see,
A sky filled with stars.
It reminds me that,
The world’s hiding scars.

Veterans on the streets,
With no roof over their heads.
We care for the soldiers fighting,
When the wounded aren’t fed.

Little girls dreaming,
Just the same way as little boys.
But they grow up to make more,
Than the women also employed.

Then there are the richest,
Who dine and dress like kings.
Children starving, begging, crying,
To a god above; worshiping.

The worry is protection,
What if we’re invaded?
So we conquer and kill,
Innocent lives unweighted.

What is education for,
If we tell them what to think.
How much potential in a little mind,
The system causes to shrink.

It’s nearly 3 am,
And I am still awake.
Dreaming of the day,
We recognize our fate.

Maybe if we take a chance to learn,
About scars that aren’t just our own.
Maybe we could learn not just our country,
but our planet is our home.
