The Cycle Repeats
This type of evolution can only grow from poverty
Lives that appear, and dissolve without biography
Deadbeats and swindlers, crossed at intersections
Loose women are venomous, laid with indiscretion
Crack babies are born prematurely with syndromes
Runaways run astray 'cause the worst war is in-home
Curse Willie Lynch for how-to-make-a-slave manuals
While gates is put up to enrage the caged animals
Mamma's only sixteen, papa was a rolling stone
Mamma got addicted, now the baby has to grow alone
Stranger to a textbook, too busy tryin' to hold his own
Broken heart, broken home, broken will, he soldiers on
Feeling hope is gone, no scholarships, no promises
No teachers that care about him, sending letters off to colleges
Dreams of a future are superseded by rent
Nine to fives are inadequate, so begins the descent
Into criminal practices, and life in the streets
He becomes like his father and the cycle repeats
She becomes like her mother and the cycle repeats…
