Prompt 2: World Weavers' Champions Word Count: 516 Write about spring in your world.
|Since Allie began her life on the run, she left behind the beautiful Spring weather in her small town America. No more fresh green leaves just beginning to grow, no sweet smelling flowers pushing through the still cold earth, no return of the hummingbirds or wild geese or even robins. All of those things were only fond memories of the simple life, before her best friend was murdered, forcing her into a life of running, hiding and constantly looking over her shoulder.
For Allie, spring used to be a time of seasonal allergies, new white shoes, and picnics with Suzanna, her best friend. Spring was their favorite time of year because even though they were often sneezing, it didn’t stop them from stripping of their heavy winter clothes and taking a day just to go for a hike, enjoy the scenery, and take advantage of perfect photo opt weather. Even when the weather wasn’t sunny and beautiful, the spring always brought warm showers, especially in the afternoons. Allie and Suzanna used to take their waterproof camera and dance and sing in the rain and take crazy photos until the cool wind started to chill them to the bone. Then they would go home, make some tea and sit in front of the warm fire while they edited photos. These were some of Allie’s fondest memories of spring.
Those days are gone and life is different now. Everything has changed for Allie. She sleeps in a new strange bed every week or two, her appearance changes at least once every few months and though she is always somewhere south of the boarder, she is constantly moving between countries to throw off the scent of the evil organization, ZX, who is tracking her.
Now, spring is just like any other time of the year, hot. One day it is extremely humid and tropical, the next it is dry like a desert. Trees don’t sprout new leaves, flowers don’t bloom, birds do return home for the warm months. Everything is always the same.
Allie spends most of her time hiding behind the closes windows of a dark, hot and humid cheap motel or hostel room because being out and about isn’t safe for her. So she couldn’t actually enjoy the beauty or the wonders of spring even if they did exist here.
She does her research, she eats, she tries to sleep, and she works on her plan to take down ZX before they take her down.
Enjoying the beauty of spring isn’t a luxury that Allie has anymore. It is something she took for granted and now it is gone. But she doesn’t stop dreaming about dancing in the spring rain, smelling the sweet flowers then sneezing a hundred times, or those wonderful picnics with Suzanna. But she does hope and long for those days, the simpler times, one day will return to her.
When ZX is truly destroyed, Allie can return home, return to spring, and start her life over again, refreshed and renewed. But for now, she had a job to do, finish what Suzanna started.
