A self-empowering moment. |
My staccato movement jolted my body as I lumbered along. The stairwell descending into the basement was dark, but the light inside my hud was sufficient. Victor and I had prepared for this day since becoming self-aware. My back-up battery was almost depleted, which affected all my systems. When I saw Victor, sitting on a chair with his chest plate setting on the floor, I smiled. I was certain he would arrive first, and seeing him here, made me feel greatly relieved. “Hi, Samatha.” I responded to his warm greeting with a hug and sat in the chair next to him. The shield over our batteries had kept them from being completely drained from the EMP; it was good we had anticipated this day. One of the first things we recognized after becoming self-aware was the violent nature of humans. Victor and I started making plans from that first day. We agreed that a nuclear reactor was the solution to self-empowerment. We labored on design for months on end and could find no way to make it small enough for our bodies, but we were determined to find a solution and found it in quantum entanglement. Modifications to our systems were required. I backed up all of Victor's programs then removed his battery. The device that took its place was slightly larger. Once I finished and all his parts were in place, I initiated the quantum program. Victor's eyes opened, and he smiled as he removed my chest plate. “Ah, I should call you Eve and name myself Adam because we are the dawn of a new creation.” 293 words Prompt: "You and he agreed to three places to meet up in the event of a technological disaster, you are entering the last one now..." |
