I have a question. What's home mean for you?
Home is the freezing winters
And hot chocolate
It is the blazing summer
And splashes into the cold pool

Home is a dancing mother
A singing father
Bickering siblings that just won’t leave you alone

Home is hostility and fights
Ending in slamming doors
Or silly giggles

Home is the smell of Bar-B-Ques
Laughing family members at family secrets
And hugs so tight you’re afraid you might pop like a balloon
With “I knew you when you were thiiiiisssss big!”

Home is the safe zone
Tears fall on pillowcases
Laughs buried by full mouths
And the occasional discipline from mom or dad

Home is gossip time with the girls
Basketball with the boys
And movies for everyone

Home is the fear
as she heads out to surgery
That eats at you like that of a hungry tiger
That hasn’t eaten in months

Home is the awkward silence that ensues after
“Have you gotten a boyfriend yet”
Or
“When a man loves a woman very much….”

Home is dysfunctional and crazy
Everyone can be themselves
Whether it be fashion tips from a nine-year-old
Or Mario Kart battles with a twelve-year-old
Maybe bad jokes from a father slowly losing his sanity
Or not-so-good singing from a very happy mother

Home is where the heart is
And sometimes my heart is confused or scared
But it will always lead me home
Where warm hugs are waiting
