A warp back in time to 1940 something

Large rooms and slate floors
Woodwork and hardwood
Wainscoting and built-ins
When craftsmanship was good

A bustling family
Bacon, eggs and bread baked with care
Enamel topped table
Jadite plates and Bakelite silverware

A large yard and a barn
A garden to till
Tulips ablaze
A fruit cellar to fill

Raspberries coming to bud
Fruit trees in bloom
Chickens run amuck
Momma shoos them with a broom

The laughter of children
Playing in the yard
Back when life was simple
and not so hard


Back to the present,
Handing you a forget-me-not bouquet
Your smile in return
took my breath away
