A story about the impossibility of pain
Deluge

I have seen this before,
not unlike the times when
one's very soul bursts
like a water balloon
heaved outward,
a red wobbly orb
in the sky striking,
the very hurt hurtling
to the browns and greens
and blues
of emotional earth ...

splat!

And how I held you crying
from depths I could never dwell,
the salty tears from a personal hell
that no bargaining chip
could be redeemed
to find peace from
within.
It seemed so
devastatingly real -
like somehow
finding oneself to be
a true, breathing ogre
with skin of an onion
that slowly peels
back upon itself
layer after layer
into
a
dense
core
of rage
that never fails
to bring tears
upwelling.

And so we called upon
each other
to listen
closely
to
the tales that trapped us
to do or don't
was still
just the same.
We were damned
by hopelessness,
but it was enough
to burst through
the walls
that those hurts
retained.
