A sonnet whose rhyming couplet offers a refreshed view on what we regard as "genius."
|Geniuses are so very rare, a kind
unto themselves: souls who are led by God's
inspiration and manifest powers of mind,
insight, and vision that surpass all the odds.
Some possess gifts of poetry, like Keats;
others, musical composition,—like Mozart;
in the sciences and arts, some perform feats
of creativity that quicken the heart.
The inspired gifts of genius are a tool
bestowed by the Nine Muses to create
art, music, and science to uplift the fool:
to elevate him to a more dignified state.
So, if your genius be not found in this rhyme,
then give the greater gift of your precious time.
