A poem on the poets' ability to bring evil rulers to justice by the power of their pen.
|A poet's flowing poems uplift the souls
of men and sing of legends small and great,
of knights and lords, of fiefdoms and of fate,
of kings and popes of wicked, wanton goals!
Now and anon, pontiffs without a soul
command the knights to charge and penetrate
the Lord's Jerusalem to extirpate
the infidels and caliphs of Sheol!
When evil popes and monarchs wage wars, poets
write and sing of their great, immoral acts,
betrayals, bloodshed, and misdeeds; tho' it's
safer to just condone this damning fact,
let poets instead make it known so it's
avenged by poetic justice's attacks!
