a walk through winter
A winter's path

I walk the path through the wilderness
The snow crackling beneath my feet
As a frigid wind whispers silently
chilling my bones while it passes.

A deer turns its head
a silent hello from nature
Before he bounds away
And I lose him within the shadows.

Snow falls lightly around me
Gently settling to the ground
Like sands in an hourglass they shift
Creating artwork within the Forest.

As if within a dream I walk
My Breath rising in the air
Etching pictures in the darkness
Before dissipating into the Emptiness that surrounds me.

Trees glisten with icy beauty
Like a fairy kingdom for all to behold
Within the imagination a world evolves
And I see the beauty hidden in the chaos.

A bridge appears before me
Like bi-frost of the myths
Ice crystals glimmering in the moonlight
An ethereal entryway to the winter realms.

I ponder life as I pass beyond
Watching the river flow freely
Chunks of Ice swirling about
Traveling to distances unknown.

The path continues onward
Snow drift's across my feet
A crossroads appears in the nothingness
With weariness I look from left to right.

I think of Frost and I wonder
Do I take the path less traveled by
Or the well worn lane most followed
Indecisive, I stand, contemplating my choices.

A third Option occurs to me
As I stand shivering
enveloped in darkness
Surrounded by nature.

Another avenue opens in my mind
I stride forth along hidden byways
Breaking trails long forgotten
Making my way through the underbrush.

I look into the heavens
The sky so full of stars
Wispy clouds drift past
creating pockets of darkness in their wake.

A full moon fills the winter sky
Moonbeams shine upon the clearing
I emerge into the glen
Reborn, it seems, my mind alive.

I see a light, a fire burning brightly
Sweet smells of food cooking
My journey, for the night, at an end
My destination still unsure.

A little farther down the road...
