Flash Fiction: Conversation
It Is What It Is

“I can’t believe how much it cost to get close to the stage. Our seats are in the nosebleed section for crying out loud. That’s not fair! It should be that the biggest fans get up front, not just the richest or the best looking!”

“Well, it is what it is...”

“I hate it when you say that. ‘It is what it is’ what’s that supposed to mean anyway!”

“It means exactly what it says. Complaining won’t change it. If you want something to be different you can try to make it different, but it will require work and time and it may never change. This place can get big bucks for front row seats, so it charges big bucks for front row seats. They can’t be responsible if rich idiots buy them and force diehard fans to the back. The place is not responsible for the fans, it’s responsible for making money.”

“Do you have to dissect everything? Can’t you just agree that this stinks. Just to be nice to me maybe?”

“OK... Well, this stinks! We should be right up front because we are their biggest fans. Why do those front row seats cost so much that only rich people can afford them! Rich people probably don’t know anything about music! Better?”

“Yeah, that sounds a little stupid. I know I tend to rant a lot, I just get aggravated at how unfair things are sometimes. Did I sound like that?”

“Pretty much.”

“Well, I guess it is what it is.”

“I can’t believe you just said that.”

“Me neither...”
