The world awakes to another day, which is not what many expected. 2017 Quill nominee
Why in the dark of my room do I lie?
I should be out racing through town streets to cry
the alarm that a new day is really upon us.
The darkness had fallen so quickly, and gone was
the sun. I was sure that the end of the world
had arrived, so I went to my bed and I curled
up with you and the dog at our feet to protect us.
He's always so faithful, he'd never expect us
to take him for granted. He knows that we love him.
I just want to tell him that we're so proud of him,
for he was the one who eventually ran through
the town calling every woman and man to
get up and peer out at the glorious wonder
of sun and blue sky, and no nuclear thunder.
It looks like the world is still with us this morning,
so there was no need to go shouting the warning
that all hope was lost for a brighter tomorrow.
There wasn't a need for the crying and sorrow.
There wasn't a reason to hide from the night time.
A new day is here now, and this is the right time
for singing and laughing and hugging each other,
for finding it in us to love one another.
The sunshine has brought us another new chance for
a new start on life and a reason to dance for
a while.
