Contest Entry- The art of tea time
How Tea Time Became an Art
A beautiful embroidered hand cut tea cloth
covers the old, battered round tea table,
a variety of chairs are brought alongside
and the ceremony commences.
Exhibiting eloquent manners,
the porcelain tea pot makes a proper bow,
cups and saucers applaud with delight,
then respond with delicate curtsies.
Crystal serving plates spin in the sun,
iridescent shards of light flicker in luminosity,
its occupants, tea cakes and scones,
delicately hold hands as if on a ride on the ponies.
Intricate, hand-stitched cloth napkins,
lined carefully with starched lace hems
twirl together around the tea table
in a most artistic arabesque dance.
Silver spoons and forks, perfectly polished,
their patina now resembling shiny mirrors,
cups and saucers reflect as they jete’
to the sugar bowl and cream pitcher.
Magical, musical melodies arise
as the spoons tickle the sides of the cups,
competing with the fragrant aromas
of varieties of various teas.
All is ready; all is served,
proper etiquette, delightful chatter,
the art of a proper tea.
