The changing outlook on a relationship
Gazing in to the depths of your eyes
As a young man I did perceive
All the wonders of life and love
And in that moment I did believe
That love could truly conquer all
All my trepidations, that calm did relieve

Then life came hard and fast
I got caught up in the ebb and flow
I lost sight of the wonders of us
Got lost in the chaos, what a magnificent show
The man who came out of the smoke
Is not the same man I know

When I see myself in the mirror now
The spark of life burns no more
The embers faded, the coals banked
The light doesn't shine like before
The darkness has swallowed up hope
That's the day you walked out the door

The funny thing about it though
Is that I never saw it coming at all
There were no warning signs
No stumble before the fall
And now I'm broken and alone
With nothing left to recall

Maybe when the smoke clears
And the dust fades away
I'll see things the way you do
I'll understand why you couldn't stay
But I don't think we'll see eye to eye again
Even if I can keep the hurt at bay
