Facing an old friend or enemy?

Here I am once more
Facing again what I finally thought was dead
It calls itself an old friend and holds its arms out
I call itself many names and keep at a distance
A comforting inspiring curse
My reality begins to fade to black
To fade into this thing's dominating existence
I now stand at the edge
The remnants of what i believed to be true, despite being too good
Crashes all around me, falling into the wretched sea
Here i am once more
Facing again what I finally thought was dead
It calls itself an old friend and holds its arms out.
Do i embrace my old friend and swim together in the black sea below?
Do i turn from my old friend and walk alone in the barren lands above?
