A favorite Christmas song which now has significance for this mom.
“I’ll be home for Christmas.”
At least it’s what she said,
but now she’s grown and married;
she hit the road instead
to travel to her in-laws.
She says, “It’s only fair.
We have to split allegiance;
we can’t be everywhere!”

Of course I understand it,
but still I feel the ache.
We’ve decades of traditions
we’ve built, for goodness sake.
To carry on without her
is challenging, it seems,
so she’ll be here for Christmas
if only in my dreams.
