A reflection on a once-loved toy and its purpose in life
Ode to a Teddy Bear’s Purpose
Soft and serene.
The perfect hug, every time.
An effigy of nature calmed,
Though made of falsehoods:
Thread, felt, shiny buttons, and polyester fill.
That of which it is comprised is not what it is.
It is comfort and caring,
It is childhood dreams,
And dreaming of childhood again.
Together, they wait,
And comprise the forgotten falsehood,
Waiting for perfect little hugs
That ceased to be little long ago.
