Nothing is quite right this side of incomplete
While hitching a ride on the long hot street,
Cars slow and then rush away,
On this surface dark and gray,
Nothing is quite right this side of incomplete.

The hand pretends hope of a spirited heartbeat,
Searching again for another promise to betray,
While hitching a ride on the long hot street,
Cars slow and then rush away.

She was once a sweet child without boundary,
Expecting each dream to rise and take flight,
And to live and dance with the moonlight.
But those dreams are now a distant memory,
While hitching a ride on the long hot street.
