This article is about self-harm and what causes it. It is what I learned.
What I have learned is that there are several reasons why a person harms himself such as: the physical pain takes away emotional pain and cutting can also be a way to stop feeling numb. Some harm themselves as another way to express emotional pain. Some children and teens grow up in home where sadness, hurt or disappointment are ignored or mocked. So, to feel pain, the child inflicts self-harm. I is seen by some as a way to cope with negative situations.
The article I read stated that instead of harming yourself, look for positive ways to express your emotions like having a good cry, listening to music that matches your emotions, or write in a journal how you are feeling.
Because cutting is hard to stop, the article also stated to talk with a mental health expert for help and support. I would add to this, if there is someone you trust, talk with him or her about your feelings.
I learned from this article that there are reasons for cutting and that it is a subject that should be taken seriously and a subject that should be taken care of as soon as possible.
