Once in a lifetime

It's destination Honeymoon!

We sign in feeling heady.
We are both feeling ready.
But as I sit down on the bed
it breaks and I fall, so
Tom gives reception a call:

He tries to explain,
but again and again
the receptionist exclaims,
"Tut tut! You've been at it, that's plain!"

Too soon our holiday's over.
Yes, we've been in clover
but I'm no longer a bride
nor my hubby a beau.
Back to work we go;
our marriage is in stride.

But when the flow stops,
we go to the obs -
-yes, a fetus is growing inside.

In no time he's one, our little son,
and in no time again we have two.

From stinky diapers and stools,
to schools and car pools,
to paying University fees,
we're proud when they get their degrees.

Bravely we bid them farewell
when our boys leave home.
They're off to a life of their own.

As the years go by
we say hellos and goodbyes
to the rhythms of their lives.

We welcome a daughter-in-law to our clan.
Soon another completes the plan.
In just a heartbeat
there are babies to meet,
with curls, and ribbons and smiles so sweet,
to granny and grandpa a blessed treat.

For us retirement's in sight
and money is tight.
So the bullet we bite,
and pull in our belts
to improve our plight.

We age and go grey.
Over that we've no say.
(But I rely on a bottle of dye!)

Three score and ten!
Time's gone so fast -
We'd thought it would last...
Fact is, we can't have it again.

In our twilight years
we're more in arrears.
Aches and pain reign -
doesn't help to complain.

We're clearly on the wane.

Our honeymoon will soon be over.
