the relationship with God is as much what we promise him as what he promises us
A Promise for a Promise
When the world I know resents me,
When ancient wounds bleed red anew,
When this soul is lost, it's ego bruised,
I know, oh Lord, you'll see me through.
When they claim my words are empty,
And pointing, call my faith untrue,
When it is I the one accused,
I know, oh Lord, you'll know the truth.
Should I stumble, hopeless and weak,
And they should kick dirt at my feet,
I won't renege my oaths to thee,
Oh Lord, I'll turn the other cheek.
When life, alas, is at its end,
When I have said all that I could,
I'll have to tell but one last thing:
Lord, my God, you are good! Good! Good!
