Chlara collects her belongings and her thought to go after her boyfriend into the unknown
"..what is it, love?" she whispered, not knowing why, even herself.
He kept silent, smiling as his gaze locked onto hers. She looked away, turning the autopilot on as she rolled her chair closer to him, laying her paws on his soft thighs. Ruffling his fur playfully, she moved her small paws up and down. Her heart started beating excited, as she leaned closer to him, feeling his warm huffs on her cheeks.
Just as she could press a kiss on his lips, her alarm buzzed. Groaning, she looked up and hit the snooze. 'Just a dream...' It was already morning, but she felt like she didn't sleep even a minute. The excitement of adventure and owning her very first spaceship filled her head...and her dreams too.
She rolled on her other side, looking at the blue light searing through the windows. As the planet had such a weak sunlight, they had to use artificial lights to keep the outside world bright enough. Her colony on Khala'an V was not that big, so they didn't receive any kind of terraforming. Not like it mattered to them, a barren planet was more like a desert for them, their natural living environment. Other than that, a hemisphere around the settlement made sure that they were well supplied with oxygen and other essential properties like temperature, light and occasional rains.
She made her way to the shower, turning on the shower head as cold water poured out of it. The liquid soaked every inch of her slim body. It was not a unique trait for a vixen to have relatively tight waists, huge ears and long tails...but Chlara somehow was blessed by the Gods to have a handful paw of busts, perking high because of her young age: she was barely at the age.
She had a huge crush on that one playful black furred canine, Kyle...she would bite the bullet for him, just to spend some more time with him, enjoying his strong yet caring touch on her...Cream fur, deep brown eyes and fit body. Every fox's wet dream. She never took pride in her body, as her mother taught her to be careful. Times were different back then, when every fifth vixen was subject to touching against their will. Not knowing better, she kept her mother's promise and tried to be as invisible as possible.
Hours seemed to pass as she soaked wet in the shower, thinking about what to pack, when she suddenly heard her table computer's notification. The vixen turned off the shower, quickly shook off the excess water and wrapped a towel around herself. Followed by quick tapping of her feet, she rushed to the screen. It was Kyle, leaving a recording for her. With a quick boop, she sat down as the timeline appeared in the bottom, counting upwards from 0:00.
"Chlara my love. I hope you're having a great day and you are ready to leave Khala'an. Oh I'd be so excited to see you again..." she gulped, hearing his voice shake a bit. After a long pause, he went on.
"Things...are not as I imagined, looks like Avery paid my dues. By the time of you receive this message, I will be the co-pilot of the O-Boat, assisting...her as a co-pilot." he tilted his head down a bit, eyes still locked onto the screen. Chlara suddenly felt harder to breathe, but she held onto her seat, leaning a bit forward.
"The ship itself can fit 4 crew members; captain, co-pilot, engineer and comms specialist. Every post is filled, and the only room left is in the cargo hold..." he looked up, looking behind his back for a moment.
" I'll be honest with you, just like in the last few months: we will be engaged in the war. I don't know when, and I don't know how will we get back. I didn't want to involve you in this...Maybe this is the last log you'll see of me." The screen seemed to blur for her, as her eyes filled with bitter tears. Biting her lips with her sharp teeth, she sobbed, wiping her eyes and unpaused the video again.
"So, I made a deal with her. If we are willing to sell everything, I mean, everything we have in possession, including our home, we can buy a smaller ship to move in convoy with her crew, only you and me in it."
At this point, the poor vixen was leaning forward, burying her paws in her face. Having responsibilities didn't seem to be such a fun thing to have suddenly...It took her minutes until she could collect herself, her fur almost drying up already from the hot air in the room. A quick wipe and a sobbing sigh, as she looked up onto the screen, her ears flopped back while finishing the last few seconds of the recording.
"Hey hun...if you don't want to come with me, that's fine. We will need a place to settle down anyway, and war is mostly just a gamble. We never know if we will return rich. Hell, we might never return in the first place! But as I know you, cupcake..." he sighed, looking back again. "Give me a call when you made up your mind. We have to leave in an hour. I love you darling...and I'll see you soon on the line." he said, turning around in his chair.
She laid back in her bed, whipping it with her tail while hugging her pillow firmly. Should she stay? Or join her love? She was always dreaming of flying, and with her loved one in the same ship! But, nowhere to go, they will live like nomads. Security is something she held to, dearly. They planned of having children after she got over the age, without a house though, she didn't want to risk of not having a safe burrow to live by. Who knows how long the war will rage on, how deep the hostility will sink in people's minds...
Thoughts like these bombarded her mind, squeezing her pillow closer to her chest.
The crew of the new-found ship, O-Boat, were gathering their belongings and preparing for the next few steps. They sat down in the meeting room, Avery at the middle of it, leaning against the terminals and facing the guys sitting in the comfy waiting chairs. No one was around the station, it was barely morning at their time.
"Okay, we have everything, and you guys of course. So here's the plan: we head out to Night Howl, buy the cargo, go to the edge of the empire, we sell the loot, and we get rich. Bala will tap into their comms, hopefully no one will notice...I'm not sure what these ships emit when they are in scanning mode, but we shouldn't risk getting too much info..." Kinsley raised his paw, scratching his side with his other one.
"Yes, what is it?"
" It's awesome to have all this, but...why all the fuss about it? I mean, we could just simply go out and sell it near the front without tapping in. That should get us plenty of profit in the first place, and we won't be the first ones to do so anyway."
Avery nodded. "Correct, good observation. That is why we have to tap in their comms. I want to hear every beeb-rat, feline or canine trader's shipment arrive at those outposts, and I want to make the best money possible. Remember, getting there and back here will take us 4 days. That means, we only have one shot. We will make it count."
Kyle raised his paw this time. Avery sighed, turning her flashy eyes towards him. "What is it, Kyle?"
"Umm, you do know we're still missing someone, right?"
"If you're referring to Chlara, I'm not really missing her, you know."
The male canine growled, cracking his toes in his shoes. "Besides, she didn't even answer. 5 more minutes is what we're giving her, no more. A deal is a deal."
Kyle lowered his head, submitting to her words. She was right, they both agreed if she wouldn't respond in time, it counted as if she said she's staying.
"Any questions?" just a few moments later, Kyle's wristband vibrated, as he jumped up walking towards a bay corridor. Of course it was Chlara calling him!
"Hun, is that you?" he whispered, almost pressing his muzzle at the screen.
"Yes, it is me...your diamond." she said, smiling a bit. "I got your message and I'm going with you. There's nothing that's stopping me from you and me flying together. If I die, I want to exhale my final breath in your arms...if I live, I want our treasure to be in my lap...I would never leave you silly!" she whimpered, holding back her tears.
"Oh Chlara, my love!" he murred, smiling back at her. "I'm so glad are coming with me. I...actually wanted you to come along, secretly. But Avery made sure I got the message through in a diplomatic way. You'll see, it will be a fun ride, just you and me, and the stars..." he shook his head, trying to keep it real. "So I guess that means the house and ship are sold by now, and you have the money."
"Yes, I have it on my account. I'm sending it now. Buy the ship and I'll see you in the station." she purred, perking her ears.
"Hey~" Kyle said, locking his deep brown eyes onto hers, visibly blushing. "I love you."
"I love you too hun. I'll see you in just a minute, all my stuff are packed already." she smiled, kissing the screen as Kyle did the same, closing the connection.
Avery already knew, that it is impossible to get these young doves separated...but she was in high doubts if it will interfere with her plans. Hopefully not...
