A voice of choice...

I took a bus to Tennessee
In a time
That wasn't ready for me
I sat at the back
Where the needy lack
Nobody was blacker than me

Those whitey white folks
Black polished
Shoes a shine
Their smiles so white
Pearls gleaming bright
None was whiter than mine

I sang a song
As we drove along
And the whole damn bus
Didn't make a fuss
That their voice of choice
Sang from a black boy
