I was challenged to write a poem about puppies and rainbows. Challenge accepted.
The sun is shining.
Stare up, a sky blue.
Nary a cloud in sight.
Puppies howl their
young puppy voices
to the sky. Rainbows
fly overhead, arching
above the bright city
watching over us.
The rain has just ended.

Without this now,
how would we know
what we should be
feeling?
Nobody said this was
going to be happy.

A man, not 20.
Lost his life to cancer.
The Earth plays happy
tunes ironically because
we aren't in a happy mood.

The man and his puppy.
Forever close. More than
most. Sadly the puppy
had lost its dear friend.
He had met his end.
Who knew puppies could
cry? I didn't. Apparently
they love like we do
according to the display
in front of me and you.

A puppy at his owner's
headstone. Laying atop
of it. Perhaps trying to
shield it from the sun.
An abundance of painful
tears rushing down its face.
Some covering the grave.
The puppy will lay there
until his owner returns.
Or until his own grave is ready.
