Life gets cluttered. It helps to entertain new perspectives.
Thoughts On Humility
It’s often helpful to let things pass,
to allow others to shine,
to resist the urge to say “I told you so,”
to keep your hand down even if you know
the answer, and to stay in the background
when others are in greater need of being heard.
Especially with those younger than yourself,
it is important to sometimes listen rather than talk.
How interesting it is that as we age
we become less certain of the world and
our place in it and
less confident in what
we had always assumed to be true.
To us, the world becomes steadily more opaque,
while for younger people life reveals itself
in stunning and obvious clarity.
We would be wise to try to see
what they see and listen to
what they have to say.
