A poem based on Romans 5:3-5
“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings,
Knowing that suffering produces endurance,
And endurance produces character,
And character produces hope,
And hope does not put us to shame,
Because God’s love has been poured into our hearts
Through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
It’s not easy for one to consider
When times of suffering are so bitter
That the pains that we go through,
Are actually strengthening me and you.
As we suffer and struggle through the things life throws at us,
We learn endurance, and that is certainly a plus.
With endurance, our character grows,
As more suffering one undergoes.
But that is not the best thing of all,
The final piece can be so small,
But makes the biggest difference in life,
When you seem to be surrounded by strife.
A gift from God who loves us so,
He gives to all of us who know,
That he’s the king of everything,
That’s what the angels eternally sing.
Even on our darkest day,
One thing always finds a way.
Like a candle burning in the night,
Hope appears, giving you light.
So when I find myself to be,
At my lowest point in history,
I remind myself of this fact,
Though I feel there’s something I lack.
Like a dry, cracked piece of pottery,
God’s love has been poured into me,
Filling me up and overflowing,
Keeping my hope forever growing.
