 Deadly Charms  (E)
Writer's Cramp Entry June 16, 2018 14 Lines
#2161065 by Chris Breva

Prompt: "Write a short story or poem inspired by the following quotation:

"The brain may take advice, but not the heart."

Truman Capote"

I wish I had heard this advice from Truman Capote
Long before I got your fateful note
You ask me to go out with you
My brain knew it was not a wise thing to do.

I simply could not convince my foolish heart
It has been a gambler from the start
My brain wanted no part but my heart took the chance
Now I face this painful and inevitable circumstance.

You took me for a joyride to doomsday
Why could my brain not have had its way
I could have avoided a lot of pain
My brain would not have gone insane!

I would be safe in another's arms
Instead I fell for your deadly charms!
