Some birds like the nighttime
They chirp at night
in summer's moon's light
The sun doesn't know
they're putting on a show

Insomnia keeps me awake
way before dawn's break
I used to think
birds only sang at the brink

of sunrise

But this year, no
They don't wait for sun's glow
They perch on the trees
feathers ruffling in the breeze

But a strange sort of bliss
seems to come from this
The birds give me hope
they help me cope

Because they show it's true
when the sky's not blue
You still have to sing
For the joy it brings.
