A Short Poem About The Fourth Of July

STARS AND STRIPES

Our country was born
On the 4th of July
When our forefathers said
To the British, ‘Goodbye’

The red, white and blue
The home of the brave
But a tough war was fought
For ‘Old Glory’ to wave

We’ve been through a lot
We’ve had joy, we’ve had pain
But our ideals and beliefs
Will forever remain

Hamburgers, hot dogs
Laughter and smiles
Politics forgotten
At least for a while

Explosions of color
Brighten the sky
Children with sparklers
Both a treat for the eye

Now the stars and stripes fly
For the whole world to see
It’s our day to celebrate
This land of the free
