The unthinkable is about to happen!
“Go Daniel, because the words are made secret and sealed up till the time of the end. No wicked ones at all will understand but, the ones having insight will understand” - Daniel 12.9-10
So ends the book of Daniel in the Bible. What are these “Secret words“? Who are the “Ones having insight” and what does it all mean for us today?
There are parts of the Bible which are written in strange, symbolic language. The most famous of these are parts of the book of “Daniel“, “Ezekiel” and the book of “Revelation.” In these books, the writers describe visions that they are given, vivid, disturbing visions which they do not comprehend. The writer Daniel freely admits “As for me, I could not understand.”
The visions given to Daniel, Ezekiel and John are of strange events far off in the future. Among the images seen are a seven headed beast, a great dragon, the moon turning to blood, a harlot who rides on the back of a beast, and four horsemen who bring chaos to the earth. If the Bible writers themselves did not understand what these things represented, how are we today meant to understand them? Indeed, do they make any sense at all?
The symbolic visions and prophecies contained in the Bible were never understood by any generation for thousands of years, yet, they were preserved as part of “The word of God.”
Secrets and “Signs”
In the book of Daniel, when the Babylonian and Persian kings under whom he serves, are disturbed by vivid dreams, they call Daniel to explain the dreams to them. Daniel is able to do this for them because, as he tells the king, “There is a God in heaven who is a revealer of secrets“ (Daniel 2.28). In the book of “Revelation”, the most symbolic and mysterious book of the Bible, the Apostle John begins the book by saying that this revelation (Greek “Apokalypse” - literally “Uncovering” or "Revealing") is “By Jesus Christ, which God gave him, to show his slaves the things that must shortly take place. And he sent forth his angel and presented it in signs, through him, to his slave John“ (Revelation1.1). When John says “shortly”, he does not mean in his own lifetime. This is shown by what he says a little further on in verse 10. “By inspiration I came to be in the Lord’s day.” Jesus consistently referred to his own “presence” in the future and said that “Concerning that day, no-one knows when, not the angels in Heaven, nor the son, but only the Father" So these events, which John, and the other writers of the Bible saw, were future events. This is confirmed by the scripture previously quoted where Daniel is told that the things he is witnessing would happen in “The time of the end” (Daniel 12.4) or, as the Apostle Paul describes it “The final age of this world” (2 Timothy 3.1).
So, does anyone today have “insight” into these things, as the prophecy promised? To answer this, let us examine two of the visions given to the Bible writers and see if it is possible to understand them. To enable us to do so, we must use a Biblical principle, namely that “All interpretations belong to God“ (Genesis 40.8). This means that, to understand one part of the Bible, we must use the rest of the Bible, a bit like using a concordance.
The Mother of the Harlots
In the book of “Revelation”, chapter 17, John describes “A woman sitting upon a scarlet coloured wild beast. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet and was adorned with gold and precious stone and pearls and had in her hand a golden cup that was full of disgusting things and the unclean things of her fornication. And upon her forehead was written a name, a mystery: Babylon the Great, the mother of the harlots and of the disgusting things of the earth. And I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the holy ones and with the witnesses of Jesus.”
Who is this mysterious woman and, why is she mentioned so significantly as featuring in the “Final age of this world”? Later in the book of “Revelation”, we are warned to “Get out of her, my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues. For her sins have massed together clear up to heaven, and God has called her acts of injustice to mind.”
This woman, this harlot, stands condemned by God for her “Acts of injustice.” But how can someone physically “Get out of“ a woman? As stated before, this is a vision, “In signs.” What John is seeing actually represents someone or something. To find out who or what, we must refer to other parts of the Bible.
In the earlier books of the Bible, God condemns the actual city of Babylon because of it’s pagan rituals, it’s bloodshed and it’s domination of other nations, including God’s own people, the nation of Israel. Most importantly, however, Babylon’s false worship is condemned. The first commandment of the ten given on Mount Sinai says “You shall have no other gods.” Babylon worshipped a pantheon of gods and used disgusting practices in their worship. According to historians - maidens (virgins) were to be available as temple prostitutes for the priesthood, a practice that the nation of Israel adopted later in their history and which Almighty God condemned them for. When Israel turned to false gods, the Almighty God compared them to a harlot and an adulteress. He compared himself to a husband of Israel, calling them his “wife” Isaiah 54.6). So God uses both Babylon and adultery as symbols of false worship and spiritual unfaithfulness to him.
In Revelation 17.15 John is told that “The waters that you saw, where the harlot is sitting, mean people and nations and crowds and tongues.“ So this symbolic woman has great influence in the world. John is then told, in Revelation chapter 17, verse 18, “The woman whom you saw means the great city that has a kingdom over the kings of the earth.“ By the time that the book of “Revelation” was written, the actual physical city of Babylon has been overthrown and was a shadow of it’s former self. Furthermore, it was no longer a seat of power, the Babylonian empire having passed away centuries before. In fact, by the third century of our common era, the city of Babylon had been completely destroyed and was a pile of ruins and stones. So John was not describing the physical city of Babylon.
When Babylon the Great, this symbolic harlot is finally destroyed, she is mourned by three significant types of people. John describes this in chapter 18 of “Revelation”, John is told that “The kings of the earth, who committed fornication with her and lived in shameless luxury, will weep and beat themselves in grief over her.” Further on in the same chapter, John is told that the “Travelling merchants of the earth” feel the same over Babylon the Great’s destruction. Also, “Every ship captain” is described as feeling the same. These are all clues to the woman’s identity.
Who is “Babylon The Great”?
She cannot be the governments or kings of the earth because, they mourn for her and she ”fornicates”, or has close relationships, with them. She cannot be business or industry (the “Merchants of the earth”) because these too mourn over her. The military, represented by the “captains” also mourn her death.
Finally, when God has completely destroys her (in John’s future), we are told that “The sound of singers and musicians will never be heard in her again and no light of a lamp will ever shine in her again, and no voice of a bridegroom or a bride will ever be heard in you again” (Revelation 18.23). Another indication to this mysterious woman’s identity is given further on when John is told “She has misled the entire world with her spiritistic practices.” Now let us put all the clues together.
This symbolic woman is an organisation that dominates over nations. She is adorned in beautiful ornaments of purple, scarlet and gold, in other words, she is shamefully rich. In her, you can hear weddings, singing and rejoicing. She is the source of spiritism and idol worship. On her hands is the “Blood of the prophets and the holy ones.” Jesus was the foremost prophet in the Bible and he was “The holy one of God” (Mark 1.24). When Jesus was handed over to Pontius Pilate he told Pilate that “The man who handed me over to you has greater sin” (John 19.11). Who handed Jesus over to the Romans? It was the religious leaders of Israel, leaders who were supposed to represent God and look after his people but, they plotted to murder God's representative, the Messiah, who had given proof of his status. It was the religious leaders who executed many of Jesus’ Apostles. More recently in history, many have been burned, tortured and executed for failing to accept the teachings of the churches, teachings that were not in the Bible. The “crusades“, the “Spanish Inquisition“, and the two world wars were both supported, or instigated by, the religious leaders of this world. Many thousands of genuine Christians, who refused to kill their fellow men during the wars, were executed, with the full backing of many religious leaders, this despite Jesus command to “Love one another.” More recently, extremist religious groups and nations have murdered tens of thousands of innocent people, in the name of their religions.
There is only one worldwide entity that fits the description of Babylon the Great, it is the organized religions of the world. Babylon the Great is the world empire of false religion, that is, religion that claims to represent Almighty God but, denies him by their selfish actions. Consider what religion has done in the past and continues to do today. The religions of the world have dominated, made themselves rich while their subjects lived in poverty, sanctioned and supported wars and inquisitions, and influenced political leaders, for their own ambitions. Worst of all, religions around the world have misrepresented God and have persecuted those who stood for true worship. Jesus warned his followers that people - religious people, would persecute his followers. He further warned that these would do this in the name of God! (see John 16.2,3).
Religions have testified falsely about God, accusing him of being disinterested in mankind’s problems and of torturing people in Hellfire (please see my article on “Hell”). They teach that humans have an immortal soul, even though the Bible clearly says otherwise (Ezekiel 18.4, Ecclesiastes 9.5). They have falsely claimed God’s support in their wars and atrocities, even though the Bible clearly condemns men's wars and violence. The religions of this world are more guilty than any other organisation on earth. Paul wrote of such people, “They have a form of Godly devotion but prove false to it's power” (2 Timothy 3). The God of the Bible himself pronounces “They honour me with their lips but their heart is far removed from me” (Isaiah 29.13). Finally Jesus asks “Why do you call me “Lord, Lord” but do not do the things I say?” (Luke 6.46).
John’s reference to “Babylon the Great's disgusting things” is condemning religion’s use of images in worship, In the Bible book of Deuteronomy, God warns his people not to make any image of anything in creation. God describes such things (statues, talismans, amulets, etc.) as “disgusting” (Deuteronomy 29.17).
With the exception of one group, all religions in the world support the wars of their governments, wars which God condemns. The world’s religions that ignore the standards and truths written in the Bible, stand condemned by God. They have betrayed God and committed spiritual adultery. That is why “Revelation” next goes on to describe her fate:
“They will hate the harlot and will make her devastated and naked and will completely burn her with fire. For God put it into their hearts to carry out his thought.”
The next question is, who will do this, who will dismantle, plunder, and destroy the world’s organized religions?
Worshipping The Beast
This brings us to another symbolic character in the Bible, again in the book of “Revelation” we find a description of an unusual creature (Revelation 13.13). The Bible often uses animals or “beasts” to represent kingdoms or countries. For example, in Daniel chapter 7 it describes four beasts, a lion with eagles wings, a bear, a leopard with wings and finally, a beast that is only described as “Fearsome and terrible and unusually strong, with teeth of iron.” Later in the book, Daniel is told what these beasts represent, the kingdoms of Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome.
Using this as our guide, we move forward to the description of the beast in the book of Revelation. The description says that it has “Two horns like a lamb” (Revelation 13.11). This is significant because, in the Bible book of Daniel, another beast is described as having “Two horns”, that one turns out to represent the kingdoms of Media and Persia, a dual world power that conquered the Babylonian empire (Daniel 8.20). This was in contrast to another beast which only had one horn, which stood for “The king of Greece.” So this two horned beast in the book of Revelation must also represent a dual world power. It is also significant that these two horns are “Like a lamb.” Elsewhere in the Bible, Jesus is described as “The lamb of God” (John 1.29). Jesus is also called the “Prince of peace” (Isaiah 9.6). So this beast imitates, or tries to replace Jesus in proclaiming peace on earth. Yet, the beast really “Speaks as a dragon.” The only person ever referred to in the Bible as a “dragon” is Satan the Devil (see Revelation 12.9), the enemy of God and the corrupter and destroyer of humankind. So this beast, while claiming to do the work of Jesus Christ, is actually a pawn of the Devil!
The beast is then described as having “All authority of the first wild beast.” Interestingly, the first “Wild beast” mentioned earlier in the book of Revelation, was made up of parts of the kingdoms referred to in the book of Daniel. So this entity originates from many nations including previous ruling powers on the earth. This beast, which represents a kingdom or empire, has supporters in all nations. This is confirmed by the fact that the beast comes out of “The sea” (Revelation 13.1). Elsewhere in the book of Revelation it is revealed that the waters represent people, nations (Revelation 17.15).
Next in the book of Revelation, we are told that the two horned beast commands the nations to create an “image” of itself. This image is then given authority by the two horned beast and it “Puts under compulsion all persons”, in fact people are commanded to “Worship the image of the beast” (Revelation 13.16).
Putting the evidence together, we see that this “Wild beast” is a dual world power which originates from other nations and has great authority. Furthermore, it claims that it can bring peace to mankind, although it ignores the kingship of the Prince of peace, the one chosen by God to rule over the earth in the future, Jesus Christ.
The Beast's Identity Revealed
Ask yourself, which two nations, born from multiple other nations, have, in recent times, dominated the political arena of the world, have worked closely together, and have proclaimed themselves as “Christian” nations, followers of Christ? This is surely the the once powerful British empire and it's closest ally, the United States of America. Britain is a cauldron of various conquering nations such as Rome, France and Scandinavia. The US is a break-away from Britain and is made up of Italian, Spanish, French, Dutch, British and other subjects. This is the beast with “Two horns like a lamb.”
But what then is the “Image of the wild beast” that is created by this dual world power, an image that is recognized and looked up to all over the earth, an organisation which claims to be able to bring peace to the earth, yet uses the threat of violence to do so?
There is only one organisation that fits this description……the so-called “United Nations.“ This organisation was the brainchild of the USA and Britain. It is given authority by them and it has acted, predominately, on the instructions of those two nations. On the wall outside the official headquarters of the United Nations, there is a statue and a scripture from the book of Isaiah in the Bible. This scripture reads;
“They shall have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. They shall not learn war anymore” (Isaiah 2.4).
This is quoting a prophecy which comes about when God’s kingdom comes to the earth and his will is done. That this is not accomplished by any human leaders or organisation is demonstrated by the words of Daniel when he said that “The God of heaven will set up a kingdom and it will crush and put an end to all these other kingdoms” (Daniel 2.44). Jesus confirmed this when he told Pontius Pilate “My kingdom is not of this world” (John 18.36).
The people of the world look to human leaders to solve their problems and bring world peace but, this is beyond them. In the near future, the United Nations, under the direct influence of the Anglo-American alliance, will begin to ban all religions worldwide. This is what the Bible is describing when it says that “They (the Nations), will hate the harlot (world religion) and will completely destroy her.” This will trigger what Jesus called the “Great Tribulation such as the world has never seen before and will never see again” (Matthew 24.21). This culminates in the real Armageddon, the “War of God the Almighty”, not some nuclear exchange between nations. God will never allow humans to damage this beautiful earth beyond repair, as Jesus warns at Revelation 11.18, “God will bring to ruin those ruining the earth.” Note that the word Jesus uses is “ruining” (present tense) not “ruined” (past tense).
If all this sounds implausible, consider current events around the world. Religious organisations are on the defensive everywhere. The churches of Christendom are in trouble for amassing wealth while people struggle to live. They have also been exposed for mass sex scandals and double standards. Islam has come under the microscope because many of it's followers advocate extreme actions and even “Holy wars.” Other religions teach conflicting, confusing doctrines which divide people and alienate sincere people from God. Millions around the world are sick and tired of the negative influence and the hypocrisy of man's religions. In a recent poll of British people, over 70% said that they thought the world would be better off without religion.
Mankind's religions has been sentenced to destruction, ironically, by God himself!
“The Light Shines Forth in the Darkness”
The above scriptural truths were not discovered by me. I was not one of the “Ones having insight.” They are openly and publicly shared by an organisation which has been given remarkable insight into the secrets of the Bible. This organisation which incidentally, I do not belong to, has been warning the world of events to come for over a hundred years now. They are not prophets but they have gleaned some important events from the Bible's prophecies. For over thirty years before the first world war, they warned that 1914 would be a year of calamity for the world, that “Peace will be taken away from the earth” (Revelation 6.4). They warned that this would be followed by worldwide diseases, famines, earthquakes and lawlessness. They published these warnings in the newspapers of their time, including the “New York Times.” Few took notice of their warning. They further said that things would progress from bad to worse as the modern era moved on.
They have stood firm in the face of the Darwinian deceit. They did not compromise with evolutionists and merge evolution with creation, thereby betraying God and the Bible.
When the “League of Nations” , set up to bring peace to the world, was dismantled because of it’s abysmal failure, only this small organisation of Bible students said that the League would be re-born as a new organisation. It was, as it became the “United Nations.“
As an organisation, they alone stood firm against the Nazi terror reign and the Stalinist genocide, both of which tried to suppress true religion. This was while the majority of the mainstream religions stood by or supported such tyrannies. Thousands of this groups members were persecuted and executed for refusing to support tyrannies, for refusing to kill their fellow human beings, and for standing by God and the Bible. They were also persecuted and murdered by the KGB in post war USSR. Many thousands of their members have been imprisoned and executed by their own countries because they obeyed Jesus' commands and refused to take up arms against their fellow man. Even today hundreds of them languish in prisons for refusing military service, this is in so-called “civilized” countries such as Spain, Japan and South Korea.
During the nuclear fear of the 50s and 60s, this group comforted people with the re-assuring news that the world would not end due to man’s nuclear ambitions. When many of the world’s population became fearful of the year 2,000, because of the sayings of Nostradamus, this group dismissed those so-called prophecies as unbiblical, and untrue - they were right.
Who are these “Ones having insight” and how did they know these things?
They are the Christian organisation known today mainly for their public preaching programme in every country of the world. They, and they alone, have announced these things to the world. They have learned these things, not by studying philosophy and the ideas of men but, by studying the Bible and praying to God for his insight and guidance. Among all the hypocrisy, greed, violence and corruption of the world‘s religions, they alone have refused to join in wars and politics. They alone have obeyed Jesus' command to remain “No part of this world,” (John 15.19) and not to “Take up the sword” or weapon (Matthew 26.52). They alone have refused to become rich from religion. They have also rejected the “United Nations” as mankind’s saviour. They alone have pointed to God’s kingdom as the solution to all of man's problems.
They alone have “Hallowed” God's glorious name to the world (Matthew 6.9).
For this they have been persecuted in all nations, just as Jesus said they would be (Matthew 24.9). As Jesus foretold, they have “Let their light shine” in this Godless world. Because they trusted in God and looked to his supernatural book, the Bible, they were given supernatural understanding which no-one else has been given.
The “Apokalypse”, the uncovering of the secrets of the Bible, has been revealed, and it is good news for those that love God, truth and peace. What awaits such people? My article “A Gift for Everyone” reveals a future which is astonishing.
