A free verse poem about a soldiers journey.
Away he goes to an unfamiliar place,
He kisses his loved ones goodbye,
His wife awaits his letters each day,
Excited to know the trials,

Proud of his work,
Honoring his family,
Serving the country,
He marches on to the sound,

He's missed at home,
A picture in his uniform pocket,
A beautiful wife and two small boys,

Staying Strong,
He writes each day,
Hoping to soon be home,

His wife checks the mail,
A letter received,
A cheer as she reads it aloud,
The next letter came,
And the next, and the next,
Things were looking good,
The war is almost done,

Until one day came some very sad news,
Along with one last letter attached.

We remember those who are lost,
And the families they left behind,
The hero's we honor,
never to be forgotten.
