Loosely inspired by "Ho Hey" by The Lumineers.
"...he did it again."

"What... you mean, Bill? Another love song? I know you don't want to hear about him anymore, and believe me I understand, but in the end it's just a song. If you don't like it just throw the cd in the bin as I already told you. Set it on fire if that's what you need to feel better. I know what you've been through with him, Sunny, don't let him ruin your day. Just forget about this, sooner or later he will finally learn to get over it."

"You don't understand, Beth, this time it's different. Wait... here, turn on the TV right now. On MTV. Now."

To Bethany's surprise, her best friend's former boyfriend, serial cheater, and now pop music sensation was right there on the screen, dancing around in what looked like a stale old house. Flowers and Christmas lights everywhere. A bunch of people all dressed in suspenders and Fedora hats, and then a girl who could have been a good body double for her friend: same haircut, same built, same dark eyes, even the dress looked suspiciously similar to one Sunny was wearing on their holidays in Sicily.

"Oh. Ok, well, I didn't know that."

"Now you understand why I cannot just throw the sseeddee and forget like I did before?" Sunny's voice was barely raised, but Bethany could tell she was upset by the increasingly marked accent in her voice. As they often joked, despite the almost 10 years living abroad you could always tell where the calm and restrained Sunny from Denver was turning into the hot-blooded, mediterranean Assunta once again. "What'sse point of that rridiculous clip, by the way. All dancing and cheering aan crushing lightbulbs. Che minchiata!"

"Ok ok it doesn't make sense, but there's no point in getting so upset! You know how these things work: today they are everywhere, tomorrow someone else will be top of the list and they will disappear. Have patience. What about getting out and chat over a coffee? I can come and pick you up in 20 minutes, is that ok?"

"Hmmm... thanks honey, I think coffee is a really good idea. But we can have it here instead, Starbucks sure is no competition for my coffee! See you here in half an hour, ok?"
