A life event that changed me forever.
It came with a tender smile.
A glint of hope in the eye.
The words came with love.
In the end, it was all a lie.
The sting to the face with a leather glove.
My heart recalls that vivid day.
The soft hand that interlaced my fingers
as we walked to the car.
I had no idea it would happen this way.
The eternal walk down the ramp
sealed my fate
The grim faced person at the desk
presented me with one request.
The promise broken
The love undone.
The shiny bracelets were tight
as my parents looked on.

Although promises and hearts were broken, time and forgiveness heals all wounds.
