Do they really have nine lives?
He was a grumpy old cat
With a notch in his ear
He let nobody close
You couldn’t even get near

He’d hiss and he’d spit
He’d roll up his back
He would coil and crouch down
As if to attack

His hair was disheveled
A dark tawny brown
His face was unsettled
With a permanent frown

But I loved that old cat
Like roses love rain
He reminded me that
The world was insane

In order to survive
You had to be tough
Just like that old cat
The world can be rough

And though they all thought
He was mean as can be
That cat was always
A kitten to me

For I was his friend
A stray just like he
We rescued each other
I saw him in me

He never had a name
I just called him Cat
And true to his nature
He was okay with that

And when that cat passed
As every pet will
He stayed in my heart
And he lives in there still

For as mean as he was
And as tough as he grew
He really did make
A quite tasty cat stew
