What I learned in creative writing class.

When writing poems be concise
Is my teacher’s sound advice

And verily be warned, quoth she,
Don’t make your language flowery

Don’t use languid, pale or wan
Not diaphanous, shard or yon

And gossamer particularly
Should not be used in front of me

And although it’s not a crime
It’s thought passé to make it rhyme

But looking over what I’ve writ
It seems to me I must admit

That I don’t think I’ll ever be
A writer of great poetry
