My family and are slipping away from each other
Five years ago
all my children were home—
five years from now
they’ll be gone,

careering pell-mell
as though blown
by cataclysmic big bang
after impenetrable first cause—

and I will still be here,
fixed like a north star
to consult when strait paths
curve and confound—

unless it’s really me who moves,
sliding away like a sunset toward entropy
