This Month's Editor: Wordsmitty ✍️

Welcome to the end of another year and six complete years of Blogging Bliss Newsletters. (you can peruse past editions here: "Blogging Bliss Newsletter Archives).

This is the last time for Editor's Picks of 2018 entries. Read them and let me know what your picks might be. Just as important are the new and restarted blogs in Welcome. Encourage them to continue with your comments.

So what does another year hold? That's explored in this month's Featured Topic. How will you wrestle the new year into your blog or comments to bloggers?

Wishing all a well and enjoyable New Year and the three hundred and sixty-some days that follow until the next one takes over.

Keep on Bloggin'!

Resolutions or Revolutions?

by Wordsmitty ✍️

One year ends, and another begins with a smooth, connected transition. You might say everything just continues. Well, it does, but it also offers a decision opportunity.

There's no better time than a new year to think about whether you want to change your blog. There's lots of reasons to do so. Perhaps the best is whether you are satisfied with your blog, its style, the content, the format, or just wanting to better track your entries. Is it a simple change or a whole new fresh blog? Of course, like so much else, it depends.

It can depend on your feelings (those gut feelings mean a lot) or your readers. Satisfying yourself should always be primary. After all, it's your blog. But if you're writing it for others, you have to take them into account. It's no different than a story, poem, or novel. What's driving you to write it? Popularity? Money? Accomplishment? Sharing? Personal? Comments and reviews can be insightful.

Besides the above, you may want to expand your writing and blogging. Just like trying your hand at a different genre or poetic format, blogs give you the chance to grow outside your standard approach. This keeps writers from becoming stagnant and predictable, perhaps even boring. It doesn't mean you throw away the old. This is a way to help improve that. Think of it as you would expanding your vocabulary.

Finally, look forward, even beyond the coming year. Decide where you want your blog to go. Maybe you're happy with a journal of your life. Blog on, but also remember that eventually a journal runs out of pages and blogs will hit a size limit. It may happen on some random day in the middle of an event that your documenting in the blog. You can plan for the next volume. That's right. Some blogs/journals/diaries are made up of yearly installments. Of course, birthdays are great for this, so can a new year, or any good point in life (although sometimes youcan't plan for it).

Let the new year be a beacon and your blog shine from the top.

Blogger's Tips-N-Tricks          *GEEK*

Tip:  Write what you want, how you want, for whom you want.

Trick:   Use the Hide Text WML to keep those sensitive things as thoughts not spoken but still recorded in your head. Just like a good scream into a pillow lets it all out without making the dog howl or the neighbors think you're crazy (unless they already know you're a writer).

Just bracket the text with {hide} ... {/hide}. It's listed at the end of the "Basic Writing Tools" found by clicking the ? above a WDC input box or in the right column under "Writing.Com Tools" - "WritingML: Doc & Help"
