My first Article piece! Please leave a review and any areas of improvement!
2018 has been amazing. Really, it has. If you were to take quick look at literally any news site, you are bombarded with page after page of ‘Brexit deal flops’, yes, we get it. And whilst Brexit most obviously holds importance, it is, in my opinion, overrated. Yep, I said it, there are more important, more amazing, things going on right now, that I didn’t even know about until I took the time to search through the internet to find anything more interesting then our current political stance. More importantly, this puts into perspective why older generations may feel the world is going downhill, not because it is, but because they have no idea how to find the more remarkable goings on. So please, take a quick look through the most remarkable happenings I could find in 2018.

July was a very memorable month of 2018, with one of the most incredible scientific discoveries to date. Why? The ESA mars express spacecraft made the amazing discovery of finding data suggesting liquid water on Mars! This is a huge discovery, and holds promise for future crewed missions to the distant planet, and who knows, maybe even support permanent life one day. 2018 was also the year that the golden state killer, Joseph De-Angel, was found due to a relative submitting their own genealogy data to an open source website, triggering law enforcement data bases and leading to the discovery. This is a huge feat for law enforcement, and shows real progress in the way criminals can be tracked and caught quicker.

2018 was a hugely successful year for science, and included the development of game changing methods and technology. For example, laboratories have now found ways to replicate patients cancerous tumours, into smaller life models outside the body. They can then use this to apply different cancer medicines too, and obtain more detailed information on how the tumour reacts, before putting the successful medicine into the patients body. This is break through, and could create quicker solutions for patients, as well as saving the health service thousands of pounds on heavier doses that may not work, or could even be detrimental to the patients health. All in all, it is undeniable that this will change the future of medicine, and is a step closer to controlling cancer as a whole.

Finally, and possibly my favourite achievement of all, was the development of Nano bots in February. These Nano bots are completely unique, in the way they can be injected into the body of mice with cancerous tumours, target blood vessels around the tumour and inject it with blood clotting drugs to cut off blood supply. This is incredible, and although still in the test stages, could be a real scientific breakthrough, possibly saving millions of lives.

These are in no way the only accomplishments; however they are ones which stood out hugely to me, and hopefully will have interested you too. Please let me know below if any of these surprised you, and any other accomplishments you feel should be on this list!
