Purgatory?

I woke in place and stood to face
a day unkown with steps to trace.
No stars were clear to make a wish,
no food to serve or serving dish.

No sun or moon to separate
the days to comprehend a date.
No time was here to disappear,
no life was lost to devastate.

No grass to feel beneath my feet
no victories or battles won.
No candle light to ease the night
of coming dawn to greet the sun.

No sound of breeze to groove the trees,
no shadows cast to shake the knees.
No hate or love to find absurd,
no haunting notes of sadness heard.

I fell in place to something more,
a universe unlike before.
Where you were here for one last word
then flew away just like a bird.
