Walk the ancient paths, examine and learn.
Walk the ancient paths
Tread carefully where steps were taken
By peasant and noble,
Friend and foe.
See now where there is ruin
Once there was grandeur.
Where there was terror
Is now peace.
Buildings now stand where there was once field.
Ancient voices calling out
From stone and brick that tell the old tales.
Do we know better than those who’ve gone before?
Who had to sow and reap,
Shared tears and laughter
Won battles and lost?
Technology has changed and living transformed
Yet all breathe the same air
And feel the same wind,
With the sun on our backs
And the rain on our faces.
Hear the distant voices!
For their mistakes are our lessons
And their stories woven into one;
As all have lived so all must die and stand before
The great Author.
