On models of existence
From Newton’s clockwork cosmos
to Hawking’s digital simulation,
humans choose metaphors for existence,
chew and swallow assumptions
to make models work.

We may be only
as ancient Democritus said:
atoms, void, opinion

or something other:
pneuma, breath of life,
wind blowing,
though we don’t yet know where from
or where to.
