flash fiction contest entry using heart candy and flowers
What the hell was I going to do! I know I procrastinated until the last minute. I guess that is because I am a man.

Now it is Valentine's Day. I have waited until today to get Stephanie a gift.
That wouldn't normally be a problem, I would have to pay top dollar but I was pretty well fixed for cash. My plan this morning was to get some candy or flowers and then take them to her.

However I hadn't checked the weather report. I got out of bed, yawned, scratched and looked out the window. Everything was white. I turned on the television and flipped to the weather channel.

A map covered with snow flake shapes filled the screen. A voice came through clearly "A storm warning has been issued. This is a storm of the century. People are advised to stay home. It is already responsible to much damage and at least five lives."

I had heard all that before. I donned my parka and snow boots and headed out the door. It took me ten minutes to get out to my car which was buried right up to the roof. I looked down the road to see the snow plow stuck into a snow drift.

It seemed impossible but I tried to walk toward the local plaza. I should have realized that those stores would not be open. I struggled to move forward and the stress of trying to walk through the drifts was beginning to tell on me.

I slipped and fell back in the snow, my heart beating like it was going to split open.

At that moment a snow mobile flashed down the street.

It stopped beside me and the driver flipped her goggles up. I started at her and gasped.
