The prompt is to write a story about a surprise without using the word surprise.
Breakfast is Served?

“I made this breakfast just for you so you could stay in bed.
I did it without Daddy’s help. He had to work he said.”

“Oh what a treat! I can’t believe you cooked; you’re barely six.”

“It wasn’t bad to bake because the cake was from a mix,

"but I don’t know how to break an egg and keep out all the shell;
and though I used the milk I think it had a funny smell.

"Plus, I came across directions that I didn't understand:
how do you get the lumps out if you're stirring stuff by hand?

"I couldn’t find the icing in the cupboard so I spread
some ketchup, syrup, nuts and cookies on the top instead.

"But I know you’re going to like it Mom. So, come on, take a bite."

"My stomach's still uneasy; I might wait if that’s alright?"

“Um sure, and Mom, though Daddy said don’t cause you any stress,
I’m pretty sure I’ll need your help to clean up all my mess.”
