A short poem responding to legislation classifying anti-police violence as a hate crime.
Look around this nation, it's built on a lie
killers patrol the streets flashing red and blue lights
they aren't going to jail, they've been given the right
to choose who gets to live and who needs to die

No longer talking about "police" that's not what they are
they're blue uniformed soldiers ready to go to war
get ordinance from the army always asking for more
hired guns for the rich used to push down the poor

Talk about "blue lives matter" when you live on the street
when you've got holes in your clothes and no shoes on your feet
if you're Hispanic or Black and you risk getting beat
for the color of your skin or the language you speak

This disparity is not only about good and evil
it's about who we aspire to be as a people
when we give some the right to use force that is lethal
we admit it's a lie that we're created equal
