a short poem about the power of music
Dead Enemy

You can’t win a war with a dead enemy.
The masses will protect them from need.

If you think they’ve died off and their voices ring true.
The enemy is living in spite of you.

Took over the airwaves and sang out a tune.
The song had live rhythm and boomed,

The voices were soaring and the beat sank in.
There was no Godly way you could win.

You outlawed the music and the music grew.
You outlawed the music and nobody knew.

You cut off its air and it grew without you.
You poison the water; what else can you do?

You pull at its roots and the roots grow deeper.
You race up its hill and its hill gets steeper.

You mow down the people and the people arise.
You look in their faces, but don’t see their eyes.

They look to another and you cannot see.
You can’t win a war with a dead enemy.
