An incident from many years ago...
That Night They Were Just Jim and Eileen

I peeked around the bedroom floor,
the afternoon dad arrived from work.
As soon as he stepped in,
he screeched words of pollution.
I choked up in my fears.
momma's cries cut the silence of the day;
In chunks of broken glass she obeyed.
I hid because friction in the kitchen escalated.
The words thrown kept the tension fueled;
paralyzed between the twin beds,
I couldn't find comfort in between them.
Frozen in stiffness my body cringed.
Momma never seemed to remember,
That moment I could never forget.
