Some memories without reasons.
An introvert by circumstance,
I never thought to tell.
Did I suspect all parents were the same?
Or, were there threats of consequence
that stifled my reveal,
or was my silence simply due to shame?

Regardless of the why of it
the secret stayed within,
as he progressed to confiscate my youth.
And not until my later teens
would any other soul,
besides my mother, ever know the truth.
