View on why I write poetry....
They told me it couldn't be done
this thing called poetry,
for I had to keep in mind that I write
poems with people to sell books to,
their thoughts being broad and suspect
as most audiences can be.
I explained that I had no such contract
with words that I set to print,
the typical swerves that reveal
my inward thinking as I slalom along,
going over moguls on the sides
of monu-mental mountains that be.
But let us be clear, then, about
who writes what for who.
Not everyone cares for my humanities,
hence the terms I use, for I'll say it again -
I write them for moi
and moi writes them ... for me.
