The Daily Poem Contest WINNER!
|Prompt: Write a poem about spring-cleaning.
What is it 'bout Spring makes you gals wanna clean
your old knick-knacks an' doo-dads, an' stuff in between?
All them dust mites are dead - they can't hurt ya no more
Getting rid of their corpses just makes room for more!
Good ol' Spring! I hear birds out on our window ledge
An' inside here, the air reeks of new Lemon Pledge™
I suppose I should drag my ass out to the yard
where the man-jobs await me - the ones that are hard!
Stuff like climbing the ladder, without falling off
so's to dig out whatever's inside the eavestrough
An' then rake all the dead stuff off our patio
that for six months was harmlessly buried in snow
But it sure ain't no more. An' the snow is all done
So I figure that narrows my choices to one
Ergo, get the wheel barrow, shovel an' rake
An' bemoan this Spring cleaning - it's no piece of cake!
Ah, but when we're all finished, we both can relax
an' complain to each other 'bout our aching backs
Looking forward to summer, out in the warm sun
barbequing some wieners, an' also our buns
Pretty soon we'll have families of birds in our trees
an' they'll poop on our patio whenever they please
Hey, let's not forget skeeters an' spiders that bite!
Happy Spring one an' all! And to all a good night!
